About NW Educational Service District 189


We provide quality services that meet our region’s needs, prepare students for college, career and citizenship, and

foster educator effectiveness to assure equity and opportunity for all students.

The Northwest Educational Service District 189 serves 35 school districts, Tribal Education Compact Schools (Lummi Nation K-12) and several private schools in Island, San Juan, Skagit, Snohomish, and Whatcom counties. Approximately 16 percent of the state’s K-12 public school students are served in the region’s school districts, which range from large to small, urban to rural.


For our region, the NWESD provides, a centralized point for the set of services and information relevant to K-12 education in Washington. Through the aggregation and pooling of services, administrative overhead costs are minimized. The result of this centralized approach is highly efficient and cost-effective services for our NWESD partner school districts.
